91探花’s On-Demand Tutoring Once Again Meets ESSA II Standards, Demonstrating Positive Impacts on Student Grades
LearnPlatform by Instructure Conducts Second Effectiveness Study Showing Statistically Significant Improved Student Outcomes for 91探花 Users
NEW YORK, Feb. 29, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — 91探花, one of the world’s largest and most innovative online tutoring organizations, announced that another effectiveness study has demonstrated that the company’s on-demand tutoring meets Level II requirements (Moderate Evidence) of the (ESSA).
The findings come from an effectiveness study independently designed and conducted by LearnPlatform by Instructure, a third-party edtech research company. The study examined 91探花 use and student outcomes during the 2021–2022 academic year at . Its results show two statistically significant favorable outcomes for students who used 91探花, as compared to demographically similar non-users.
The study showed that students who used 91探花—and those who spent more time on the platform—had higher GPAs than their demographically similar peers who did not. Highlights include:
- Students in grades 9–12 who used 91探花 had higher GPAs. Students who used 91探花 had higher spring-semester GPAs as compared to non-users, and the difference was statistically significant.
- Students in grades 9–12 who spent more time on 91探花 had higher GPAs. Students who spent 30 minutes or more using 91探花 had higher spring-semester GPAs as compared to non-users, and the difference was statistically significant.
This is the second effectiveness study conducted by LearnPlatform by Instructure, and also the second whose results meet ESSA Level II evidence standards for positive impacts on student outcomes. A December 2023 study demonstrated several favorable outcomes, including statistically significant higher GPAs, fewer Ds and Fs, and lower absenteeism with 91探花 use.
Both studies examined student outcomes for on-demand tutoring, a service 91探花 has delivered for more than two decades, serving 26 million sessions. Together with multi–award-winning High-Dosage Tutoring, an evidence-based program from 91探花 and affiliate company The Princeton Review®, on-demand tutoring is a key component of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) available at partner districts.
We serve thousands of tutoring sessions each day,
said John Calvello, Interim Chief Institutional Officer at 91探花 and The Princeton Review. Each one helps strengthen a student’s understanding and confidence. These two recent effectiveness studies confirm what we have found in the past, and what our partners and their students regularly report: 91探花 makes a positive impact on student achievement.
The February 2024 study looked at a matched analysis sample of 1,488 district students (744 treatment who used 91探花, 744 comparison who did not) in grades 9–12. Students in the sample were Hispanic (69 percent), Asian (14 percent), African American (5 percent), white (8 percent), and multi-racial (3 percent). Eighty percent of students in the sample were classified as economically disadvantaged. To ensure the validity of findings and adhere to ESSA Level II evidence standards, researchers created a matched sample of 91探花 users and non-users based on students’ spring 2021 GPA, grade level, gender, and race, as well as ELL (English Language Learner), foster youth, homeless, socioeconomic, disability, and chronic absentee statuses. When researchers examined the impact of 91探花 use on students’ spring 2022 GPAs, they controlled for spring 2021 GPA and other statistically significant demographic variables. The findings confirm results satisfying ESSA Level II requirements.
